My favourite class is arcanist, but it's not really a good choice for a new player. Very investment heavy and takes quite a bit of practice to pilot it. Personally, I'd suggest picking a DPS class as your first for the story, getting to Punika and then boosting a support with the Punika pass. Scouter - Transformation class with a static rotation after, looks cool but not complicated. Reaper - Bounce across the entire screen and look cool or kill yourself, damage feel meh for effort. Summoner- Solid class, both builds very strong, one piano with pets, one sort of like igniter.An important thing to remember is that gunlancer scales extremely well with engravings, especially blue lancer - since your shield is basically always up (if you have specialization & time your shout right) a lot of the negatives to engravings are basically negligible.
